Big Brother Professional Edition
Big Brother (aka BB) is a well known highly customizable web-based systems and network monitoring application. It comes with a very customizable HTML and Flash (Flash in professional edition only) dashboard that gives administrators a green is good, red is bad snapshot view of their entire network.BB monitors things like connectivity, network services (ssh, pop3, imap, ftp and so on...) and local system information (cpu, disk space, processes and so on...) natively. Hundreds of additional plugins for BB are available from their user community deadcat.
As long as the machines are connected to a network, the physical locations of the stations being monitored are not important. This lets you monitor computer networks remotely, 24-hours a day. Big Brother generates a web page (HTML or Flash) that can be viewed internally or externally and notify one or more people of the network status via e-mail or pager.
